LITCHFIELD — Nikia Hunt, an English and business teacher at Litchfield Public Schools, has been nominated for the 2017-2018 national LifeChanger of the Year award. Sponsored by the National Life Group Foundation, this award recognizes and rewards the very best K-12 educators and school district employees across the United States who are making a difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence and leadership. She was nominated by a student, Emily Snow. Hunt manages many activities outside the classroom, including the high school and middle school quiz bowl, the newsletter, the school website, social media, FBLA chapter, the class of 2021, and the school robotics club. She also attends conferences to present and share technology and knowledge, and recently introduced the “hour of code” program to her school, where her IT class creates lessons for younger students. Seventeen individual LifeChanger of the Year awards will be given during the 2017-2018 school year. Winners are announced via surprise award ceremonies at their schools. The grand prize finalists will also be honored at a national awards ceremony in spring 2018 in Bermuda.
